'Seeing Life Wounded Souls'
exhibition artworks
The artworks below were part of the'Seeing Life Wounded Souls' exhibition held during Prisons Week in October 2026, at Chester Cathedral, UK. An exhibition of poetry with the accompanying artworks I had created, exploring the lived experience of people serving IPP sentences, featured in David Beedon's seminal book 'Pastoral Care for The Incarcerated: Hope Deferred, Humanity Diminished' (Palgrave Macmillan 2022).
They pastorally encounter the lived experience of seventeen IPP (indeterminately sentenced) people in custody through the approach of 'found poems' (developed by Carolyn Mears) that uses actual words from interview transcripts that former prison chaplain David used.
The images and poems from this exhibition are taken from the book 'Pastoral Care for The Incarcerated: Hope Deferred, Humanity Diminished' (Palgrave Macmillan 2022) and are subject to copyright © David Kirk Beedon, under exclusive licence to Springer Nature Switzerland.
